Doug passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2000 at age 45.   He was a loving husband to Carol Cleere Edgell and a loving father to their 7 children.  He had an outstanding career in the Army serving 21 years before retiring but continued working in the private sector with the Army.  He was stationed in Germany and the USA throughout his career.

The Director of Counterintelligence in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense personally recognized CW4 Edgell's efforts to support defense-wide Counterintelligence. CW4 Douglas Edgell was inducted into the Hall of Fame posthumously in 2003
